California Proposition 64 Seeks to Legalize the use of Marijuana

One of the most discussed propositions on the ballot this year in California is Prop 64. Also known as the California Marijuana Legalization Initiative, Prop 64 would legalize the recreational use of marijuana for adults over the age of 21. Smoking would be permitted in a private home or at a business licensed for on-site marijuana consumption. However, smoking would still remain illegal while:

-Driving a vehicle

-Smoking anywhere smoking tobacco is allowed

-In all public places

Individuals would be legally allowed to possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana. However, possession on the grounds of a school or daycare center while children are present would remain illegal.

In regards to growing, an individual would be permitted to grow up to 6 plants at their private residence, so long as the area is locked & secured and is not visible from a public place.

However please keep in mind that marijuana possession is still illegal in the state of California and will remain so unless Prop 64 passes. So until then selling, purchasing, distributing, and carrying any amount of marijuana for non-medical uses will still get you in trouble with the law.

But regardless of your stance on this Prop or the other 16 Props on the ballot this year, be sure to get out there and vote on Nov. 8th.
